What are electrolytes?

Electrolytes are substances that have a natural positive or negative electrical charge when dissolved in water. An adult's body is about 60% water, which means nearly every fluid and cell in your body contains electrolytes. They help your body regulate chemical reactions, maintain the balance between fluids inside and outside your cells, and more.

Although most people are familiar with hydrating sports beverages or coconut water being sources of replenishing electrolytes, a number of hair and skincare brands are launching topical treatments that are powered by electrolytes.

As electrolytes are already associated with hydration in the minds of consumers, brands are integrating the charged minerals into everything from lip balms and moisturizers to hair masks and more.

As a range of products for the face and hair have recently been formulated expressly with the needs of athletic consumers in mind, the topical products appeal to active individuals who are already familiar with the importance of replenishing electrolytes.

Certain metabolic disorders or loss of electrolytes (minerals and trace elements in the body including calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, phosphate and chloride) can also become one of the main causes of hair loss. Mineral replenishment can pave the way for hair loss regrowth. In short, anything that disrupts normal hair cycle can result in hair loss in both males and females.

Fabric of Hair: Gracefully GreyđŸ€đŸ€

Ready to embrace and bring out the best in your grey?

Here are a few suggested tips that covers everything you need to know about caring for grey hair, whether your statment piece is a silver streak or you’re in a transitional phase where you’re letting your grays grow in.

Grey Hair Streak:
Blend the texture, since grey hair lacks pigment, it tends to have a different texture than the rest of your hair. On finer hair, grays could be coarse, and on coarser hair, they can be fine, or sometimes it can be a combination of the two.

In order to have your grays cooperate with the rest of your hair, styling tools and products are essential. Using a smoothing cream to manage your hair and to help control frizz.

Transitioning to grey hair:
The big chop, to minimize that awkward stage when your grays are growing in try stylish cut. A sophisticated short haircut pretty much eliminates the growing-out stage. Often due to the varying textures of grey hair, going for a shorter hairstyle can help control hair that becomes harder to manage at longer lengths. A shorter style also works well with soft, finer grays, as less length won’t weigh hair down, giving structure and body to limp strands.

Finding the right hair dye:
If you’re using hair color at home to blend your grays, using semi-permanent dye aid in achieving a softer look. So it’s basically putting a hint of color on the grey, instead of completely masking it.

Consider highlights:
Most people believe that when it comes to coloring grey, it’s total commitment or nothing. However there are ways to work with it. Highlighting and low-lighting techniques to blend grays with semi-permanent color to soften the regrowth line. You can choose, you don’t have to fully stop coloring your hair, and you don’t have to do all-over color.

This process of using highlights and lowlights to gradually filter in your natural grays can take several months, but it will help blend your grey roots during the transition while still enhancing your style.

Watch your heat levels:
Using blow-dryers and hot tools will help you create different hairstyles, but be wary of blasting silver strands with too much heat, as it can yellow or tint your hair. Always use a heat-protectant styling product. You can also opt for non-heated tools like velcro rollers or bendy rods to get your desired style.đŸ€©

The Beauty of Naturally Textured Hair đŸ€ŽđŸ€ŽđŸ€ŽđŸ€ŽđŸ€Ž

Some people think afros are the only style for natural hair. Just in case you haven’t heard, I will catch you up on what you're missing out on.

A plethora of unique hairstyles that are amazingly beautiful and healthy for your hair and scalp.

Many of the natural hairstyles you can wear include: Two-strand twists, cornrows, bantu knots, locs, braids, flat twists, coils, afro puffs, and the list goes on and on.

The opportunities for styling Afro-textured hair in its natural form are endless.

Not only can you find various twists and braid styles, but you can add color and texture to your natural hair by applying extensions to create many different looks.

This means you can avoid chemically processing your hair to achieve these looks whilst tucking your hair away to give it a well deserved break.

Did you know? 🧐

Natural hair looks strong, which is why so many people accidentally abuse it with rough treatment. In reality, naturally textured hair is fragile and needs to be treated with the gentlest of care in order for it to flourish.

Wide tooth combs, natural ingredients, and your own fingers are the best tools and products for naturally textured hair. You'll find that low-manipulation and protective styles usually help to retain length because constant grooming can be too much for theses hair types.

Protective styles work for naturally textured hair, the iconic wash-and-go. Many don't really look at the wash & go as a protective style, but it truly is.

Between not applying maximum tension on hair strands and allowing for your hair to naturally air-dry, this style can be fairly effortless especially when paired with the right products.

SIDE-SWEPT BOB
This year the best holiday hairstyles are all about capturing the look of something polished yet undone. A side slick is easy to do but looks really polished.
Tip: Adding a deep part and brushing one side, use stying gel to lay that side down.
Then using a blow dryer for extra bounce and volume on rest of hair left out.
Then complete the look with your choice of hairspray and add festive accessories like pins and barrettes that just scream “Merry Christmas”.

Fabric of Hair Investigates: Textured Curly Hair Detanglers🧐

It is rare that any natural can comb through their curls comfortably without a product to keep things in check.

This is doubly true for those who don the wondrous crown of beauty known as Type 4 hair.

As one of the most fragile hair types, these super tight curls are usually vulnerable to damage without the right combo of water, oils, and butters to allow the hair strands to glide past one another seamlessly, instead of snagging and tearing.

While the natural hair care market is saturated with products that profess to keep detangling drama-free, not all of those products work well with kinky curls and coils.

Chances are, it requires a creamy product with a decent amount of slip order to really relax those tangles. And because we know that the world of textured hair is diverse with distinct needs for each individual head of curls.

Here is my short list of all-star detanglers along with tips on the best ways to use them proven formulas to address your specific hair concerns and eliminate the guesswork.

Best Multi-Tasking Detangler
Melanin Haircare Multi-use Softening Leave in Conditioner
Sometimes, you need your products to do more than one thing. Wash day is enough work as it is without applying one million different creams and oils. Melanin Haircare has created the perfect product that has not one or two—but seven different uses. It can be used as leave-in, a pre-poo, a conditioner, a deep conditioner, a styling cream, a rehydration product throughout the week, and a detangler.
The formula is packed with ingredients like baobab seed oil and jojoba oil which work together to promote flexibility, and soften the hair. đŸ€©

Best for Dry or Damaged Hair:
Shea Moisture Raw Shea ButterExtra Moisture Detangler
In addition to providing the appropriate slip to release knots, this detangler can be used to strengthen hair that’s been damaged by dyes, perms, and heat styling.
If your hair is just extremely dry or in the process of transitioning, this raw shea butter product will condition and renew your thirsty curls. 😀

Best for Dyed Hair:
Mielle Organics Detangling Co-Wash
Not only can this co-wash detangle, nourish, and cleanse your hair between washes, but your recent dye-job will be completely safe. Apply this and comb through your hair from ends to roots, then hop in the shower to rinse it all out. Because it’s made
for everyday use, you can use this in your routine as many times as you see fit. 💛💛

Best Detangling Heat Protectant:
4c only Too Soft Leave In Conditioner
As you may have guessed by the name—this 4C-centric line is here for the kinks and tight curls, and the kinks and tight curls only. After you’ve washed and conditioned, apply this silky cream from ends to roots and enjoy the softness while styling. Do yourself a favor and apply this before your next blow out, too—it works amazingly as a heat protectant.😍

TAKE CARE OF YOUR SCALP, IF YOU WANT AMAZING HAIR
💛💛💛💛

You probably don’t think too much about your scalp.
Why would you?

It’s hidden 100% of the time (if you still have hair).

However, you should care a lot about your scalp.
It’s the root cause of all your hair greatness and failures.

Let’s discuss how your scalp affects your hair.

The scalp is responsible for maintaining the health of your hair follicles and the hair that grows out of them. Keeping follicles as healthy as possible ensures strong hair growth and strands.

The condition of your hair is often a reflection of your overall health.
Eat well, exercise, drink plenty of water, get enough sleep, and reduce stress in your life.
Living well and staying healthy will result in a healthier scalp and thus, better hair.

THE PROBLEM CHILD: DANDRUFF

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES DANDRUFF?🧐

Believe it or not, some people don’t have it. While others think its a bad joke.

About 50% of people in their twenties have dandruff, while 2/3 of all people “suffer” from dandruff at one point in their lives.

Dandruff typically shows up as white, flakes that scatter on the skin and sometimes your neck and shirts.

These flakes are dead skin cells that have been shed from your scalp.

A common misconception is dry skin causes dandruff. This however, is not true.

If you are part of the 50% suffering from dandruff, you can thank a small fungus called “Malassezia Globosa”.

Malassezia Globosa is the major culprit in causing dandruff.
The root cause of dandruff is the single-celled microbe Malassezia Globosa, which exists on everyone’s scalp.

Around 50% of people’s bodies have a negative reaction to the presence of this fungus. It feeds on scalp oils.

The natural oils on your scalp, known as sebum, are key requirements to fuel the dandruff-causing microbe.

Malassezia feeds off these oils, breaking it down into by products, including oleic acid.

This is where dandruff starts.

More than half of the world is sensitive to oleic acid.
If you’re one of the 50% of people in the world sensitive to oleic acid, you’ll probably experience dandruff.

The body reacts to the presence of oleic acid by increasing the speed at which your skin cells renew.

It’s an attempt to “shed” the irritant and is the mechanism that causes flakes.
The result is dead skin cells accumulate on the scalp and become visible in your hair and fall off onto your shoulders.

Looking for the best shampoo for dry scalp or the most effective way to take care of dandruff can be exhausting.

Here are 4 problem solvers đŸ€©đŸ€©đŸ€©đŸ€©

  1. ApotheCARE Essentials anti-dandruff shampoo with salicylic acid, juniper berry, tea tree and cypress.

  2. KLORANE Soothing and Anti-Irritating Shampoo with Peony.

  3. RE-fresh scalp care Anti-Dandruff shampoo with salicylic acid,
    coconut.

  4. REDKEN Scalp Relief, dandruff control shampoo.

3 Tips for a Great Blow-Dry

Most people don’t know how to blow dry their hair so it looks like the work of a professional stylist, which of course, is totally understandable.

You may not realize it, but there’s so much more to the task than simply grabbing a dryer, pointing it at your head, and blasting your hair with heat.

In fact, getting a gorgeous at-home blowout requires using the right products, keeping your hair healthy, and getting a little bit of practice.

  1. Invest in a great blow-dryer:

If you have the budget, you may want to invest in a tool that offers functions to minimize hair damage and help cut down on your drying time.

Some dryers offer features like multiple heat settings, a cool shot to close hair cuticles, and ionic air technology.

  1. Air or towel drying your hair.

Starting with this step will keep your hair healthy, minimize dry ends, and result in shinier blowouts.

Towel drying or air drying your hair to remove as much moisture as possible.

The dryer your hair is the less heat you have to use.

  1. Always use a heat protectant:

Heat protectants work, be diligent about using them.

Think of it as sunscreen for your hair, many products can used on either wet or dry hair, so read the bottle to understand how to use it.

In todays product call outs it seems brand-new ingredients are introduced constantly, all promising to give you shinier hair, softer ends, and a healthier scalp.

No matter how many new discoveries get acollades in the beauty industry, we can’t help but investigate into an ingredient that promises softer, longer stronger, more healthy hair.

One of the latest ingredients on the radar is marula oil. With the rise of its popularity, chances are you’ve already run into some marula-infused products.

What Is Marula Oil?

Marula oil is an oil extracted both from the kernels and the nuts of the marula fruit tree, which is native to parts of southern Africa.

  1. Lightweight texture: Marula oil’s lightweight texture and fast absorption mean it leaves a satin finish on your strands without making them look greasy or weighing down your style.

Marula oil is lightweight and absorbs easily.

  1. Rich in antioxidants: Marula oil is rich in vitamins C and E, protective antioxidants that nourish and add moisture to the hair follicles.

This helps repair damaged hair and prevents split ends.

  1. Protects hair from damage: Marula oil is a great ingredient for damaged hair. It also protects the hair from moisture loss and provides UVA protection from sun damage.

  2. Promotes hair growth: High in L-arginine, which is the precursor for nitric oxide, which is a vasodilator. Vasodilation of the blood vessels that feed the hair may promote hair growth.

  3. Smooths frizz: A few drops seal and coat your hair cuticle, eliminating frizz and adding tons of shine. It can also help promote a healthy scalp.

What Hair Types Benefit From Marula?

As far as hair texture goes those with dry, brittle, or damaged hair or those struggling with a flaky and irritable scalp will benefit the most from marula oil.

Your hair texture can also play a role in the best way to apply the oil. Those with thick, coarse hair may prefer to incorporate a shampoo and conditioner that contains marula oil
into their routine, whereas those with fine and brittle hair may choose to apply the oil directly onto hair.

Marula oil works great on dry, frizzy, and curly hair types, but it can be used on all hair type and patterns.đŸ€©đŸ€©đŸ€©đŸ€©đŸ€©

Why Hair Turns Gray?🧐

Hair eventually loses its color, usually beginning in your 30s or 40s.

Though going gray is natural, many people dread it because of society’s social notions about aging.

What gives hair its natural color?
Melanin, the brown, black or yellow, red pigment that tints skin and eyes, also dictates your hair’s hue.

Like paint-mixing, the amount and combination of melanin determines hair color.

Why does hair have color?
Scientists aren’t sure. The trait may have evolved partly to help pre-humans stand out from each other, to help regulate body temperature by absorbing or reflecting sunlight.

Why does hair turn gray?
Gray hair is really hair with reduced melanin, while white hair completely lacks it.

That’s partly because of a  gradual decline in the number of stem cells that mature to become melanin-producing cells.

The cells may wear out, become damaged, or loose the support systems meant to keep them working.

Genes are also a factor, since they help control melanin production.

How does your hair color and type determine how you go gray?

The underlying biology is similar across hair types, even if the age of onset can vary with ethnicity.

The experience may be different by hair type and color: Grays are more noticeable for those with darker hair, while blondes can go for years unaware that grays have mixed in with their blonde strands.

The gray transition can seem slower for curly hair types, simply because it can take much longer for curly hair to look longer as it goes through many twists and turns down the length of the hair type.

Because of the corresponding change in hair texture that occurs with all graying, most hair types—whether curly, straight, wavy or natural—experience a discrepancy between the texture of gray hair and regularly pigmented hairs.

People with naturally curly hair will typically notice gray hairs curl up even tighter, while those with straight or slightly wavy hair most commonly experience breakage with their gray hairs.

Wondering what causes gray hair to feel “wiry”?
While gray hair feels coarse and rough, the structure of the strand hasn't actually changed. When those melanin-producing cells run out of steam, the hair follicles also produce less sebum (the natural oils that hydrate hair) which makes gray hair to be drier, giving it that wiry texture.

Can anything prevent hair from graying?
For now, no.đŸ˜©

Hydration vs. Moisturization

What does it mean to have hydrated hair and why is it so important?

When it comes to picking products, many consumers miss the mark on “hydration.” Most think moisture hydration are the same thing.

What is the difference between hydration and moisture?

Hydration is the process of applying water to the hair and involves penetrating the hair strand.

It is meant to increase the absorption of water in your hair follicles, and increasing the amount of water in your hair.

The increased level of hydration makes your hair soft, bouncy, and strong, as opposed to dry, frizzy, and brittle.

Moisturization is the process of locking water or hydration in the hair shaft, which is focused on the surface of the hair strand.

This can be done with any product, process, or tool that will slow down water evaporating or leaving the hair.

So while hydration is about moisture absorption, moisturization is about moisture retention.

This means hydrators will normally contain humectants while moisturizers contain sealants or anti-humectants.

You need to both hydrate and moisturize in order to keep your hair from getting dry.

How do I hydrate my hair?

To hydrate your hair and increase the water that gets absorbed in your hair, you'll need a humectant. Humectants carry and attract water.
Note: Popular humectants in haircare products are glycerin and honey.

How do I moisturize my hair?

Once you've hydrated your hair with a water or humectant-based product, you need something to seal in that moisture.
Note: The most popular anti-humectants and sealants are natural oils and butters, which lock moisture into your hair and keep your hair moisturized throughout the day. 💛💛💛💛💛

How Often Do I Need to Shampoo?

You might have heard shampooing less often is better for your hair. Or perhaps you’re thinking of ditching shampoo and joining the “no ‘poo” movement in search of healthier, better looking hair.

Truth is there's no single answer to how often people should shampoo. You may not need to do it as often as you think. It usually comes down to personal preference.

How Shampoo Works

101: what does shampoo do?

Shampoo traps oils, so if you do it too frequently, you may dry your hair out, leaving it prone too breakage.

Hair produces natural oil called sebum, and shampoo is an emulsifier that captures and traps excess oil, dirt, and product residue, which you then rinse out to clean the hair.

For the most part, some build up is ok and natural, you definitely want some oils to remain in your hair.

They provide moisturizing and a protection barrier for the skin and hair.

Who Should Shampoo Daily?

Fact: There are a small group people who need to shampoo daily, like those with very fine hair, someone who exercises a lot (and sweats), or someone living in very humid atmosphere.

Therefore If you have oily scalp, then daily washing is needed.

How Steam Hair Straighteners Differ from Conventional Flat Irons?

Frequent use of hair straighteners can deplete your strands of moisture because conventional flat irons use your hair’s natural moisture to create smooth and perfectly straight hair.

Steaming flat irons are designed to replenish moisture during the straightening process, giving you sleek-straight strands without over-drying your hair.

Steam flat irons use Vapor Infusion Technology to straighten your strands more efficiently than regular straighteners while preventing heat damage to the hair.

The released steam adds moisture to prevent over-drying, leaving your hair healthy-looking and silky smooth.

Thick, coarse hair which requires added attention to smooth with a conventional flat iron.

This hair type requires more time and heat to create the style you want and frequent touch-ups to keep the hair straight.

Steam-infused flat irons use bursts of steam to effectively straighten textured hair types that resists heat straightening, giving you longer-lasting results than traditional hair straighteners.

Advantages of Steam Flat Irons

  1. Works well for coarse hair: Using a steam straightener helps straighten natural, kinky, and coarse hair, giving you salon-like results at home. Using a steam iron can be a safe alternative to chemical relaxers. If you do relax your natural hair, you will need to get relaxer touch-ups less often.

  2. Less damage from heat: Steam hydration helps prevent heat damage, leaving your hair looking healthy, soft, and sleek. The steam function makes flat irons very easy on processed and damaged hair, providing more protection from breakage than conventional flat irons.

  3. Longer-lasting results: The straightening effects of a steam flat iron last longer than the effects of regular hair straighteners. The steam helps keep your hair straight all day or until your next shower.

  4. More shine: The steam mist adds smoothness and shine, giving your style a beautiful glossy finish.

How Dehydration Impacts Your Hair, Skin,

The health of your hair, skin, depends on many factors, including staying hydrated.

The general rule of thumb is to drink eight cups of water per day, though you may need more than this, depending on your body weight and activity level.

If you feel thirsty, you’re already experiencing the first sign of dehydration.

Along with this symptom, you’re likely to notice problems with your hair, skin, if you don’t drink enough water.

How Dehydration Impacts Your Hair:

Hair needs moisture and vitamins to stay healthy. If you’re dehydrated, your body will direct much-needed moisture to more critical functions, leaving your hair to fend for itself.

Growth may slow or stop, and the hair shafts may become brittle and develop split ends.

Water comprises one-quarter of a healthy strand of hair, so with improper hydration, your hair loses both strength and volume.

Severe dehydration may even accelerate hair loss. If you notice your hair beginning to thin or fall out in larger quantities than usual, increasing your daily water and vitamin intake should help.

Note: It’s also beneficial to use a moisturizing conditioner and avoid blow drying your hair until its moisture content improves.

How Dehydration Impacts Your Skin:

Dehydrated skin and dry skin isn’t necessarily the same thing. Your skin can become dry and cracked due to low humidity and lack of moisturizer, even if you drink enough water.

However, dehydrated skin lacks moisture from the inside. It may appear not only dry and itchy but also dull, uneven, and wrinkled.

You can even detect dehydration through your skin. Lightly pinch a small area of your cheek or neck. If the skin wrinkles beneath your fingers or doesn’t bounce back immediately when you let go, you are dehydrated.

This is the result of insufficient moisture in the outermost layer of your skin, called the epidermis. Drink more water to restore plumper, more youthful-looking skin gradually.

So to improve your Hair and Skin, and not go down the Dehydration road, drink more water.đŸ€©đŸ€©đŸ€©đŸ€©đŸ€©
